- PublicationObjects of the Revolution in East LimerickObjects are powerful witnesses to history. They speak movingly of the experience and impact of conflict. This exhibition showcases objects from the area of the East Limerick Brigade of the IRA during the War of Independence (1919-1921) and Civil War (1922-1923). The objects featured in this exhibition are not normally on view to the public. Some have been passed down through the generations by families who still cherish them today. Others are part of museum collections but are not usually on display due to limited exhibition space. Some have stood the test of time because they are mementoes of lost loved ones and of experiences that profoundly affected local communities in East Limerick and beyond. Others were kept as trophies of war that expressed people’s complex sense of identity and allegiance during this tumultuous period in Ireland’s history. This project is being undertaken by UCD School of Archaeology in collaboration with Abarta Heritage through the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences COALESCE fund.
