Abstract
The Indian Government Introduced the New Education Policy in 2020 to bring about quality in the education system in India keeping in view the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (SDGs). The Education system in India is the responsibility of central government and individual states. It is governed by different government departments, as well as different educational bodies involved in the field of education. In India a school leader plays a prominent role as the head of an institution. This study explores the different leadership styles, the basic environment that needs to be prevalent in the school, the factors that enhance the professional commitment of teachers and the importance of professional development of teachers in school. The New Education Policy 2020 would be analysed and explored under different headings. The findings will show whether there is importance given to school leadership and to the professional development of teachers in India. After analysing these issues, conclusions are drawn giving appropriate recommendations.
