Abstract
Filíocht ó bhéal a chum Mháire Bhuí Ní Laoghaire (1774–ca 1849) i mblianta deiridh na
hochtú haoise déag agus i gcéadleath na naoú haoise déag.1 Ní raibh léamh ná scríobh
aici, is cosúil, agus ní haon ionadh é, mar sin, go ndírítear aird ar a cumas sa teangain
agus ar bhua a cuid aithriseoireachta. Ba chuid dhílis den seanchas i Múscraí Máire Bhuí,
is fíor. Thagair Amhlaoibh Ó Luínse al. ‘Fruí Chanaí’ (1872–1947) di, cuirim i gcás, sa
tseanchas a bhailigh Seán Ó Cróinín uaidh ón mbliain 1943 go dtí an bhliain 1944.2 B’é
teist a bhí ar Mháire Bhuí dar le Pádraig Ó Crualaoi al. ‘Gaedheal na nGaedheal’ (1861–
1949) ná go bhféadfadh sí leanúint den chumadóireacht nuair a theipfeadh na focail ar a
lán daoine eile:
