Abstract
When she took office as President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen promised a more social EU. In fact, she initiated several social EU laws: for example the minimum wage directive or the directive on wage transparency and equal pay. She also proposed a new directive for the rights of couriers and drivers on digital platforms such as Uber or Deliveroo. The current legislative period of the EU Parliament is soon coming to an end. An international alliance of business associations and neoliberal politicians therefore tried to block progressive laws in the EU Council of Ministers at the last minute, namely the EU directive on platform work (for example for delivery services such as Deliveroo or Uber) and the EU supply chain law, which is intended to oblige corporations worldwide to only work with delivery companies that comply with minimum labor, human rights and environmental standards.
