Abstract
The convergence of Circular Economy (CE) strategies and Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies has influenced the entire product lifecycle enhancing sustainability and operational efficiency. Simultaneously, Customer Service and Maintenance (CSM) serve as critical pillars of organizational growth, fostering customer loyalty and business success. However, the intersection of these domains remains underexplored. This paper addresses this gap by introducing Circular Customer Service and Maintenance 4.0 (CCSM4.0), an extension of the Reference Architecture Model for Industry 4.0 (RAMI4.0), designed to enhance product circularity and optimize CSM operations. RAMI4.0 is a highly recognized reference architecture that presents a structured approach for implementing I4.0 technologies. The CCSM4.0 framework integrates key activities, including proactive and reactive solutions, I4.0 technologies, and CE strategies. This integration aligns with the hierarchical manufacturing levels (e.g., product, workstation, company, external) and functional layers (e.g., asset, integration, information, business) defined in the RAMI4.0 framework. By analyzing real-world applications, this study demonstrates that CCSM4.0 can extend product lifespan and operational efficiency while improving decision-making through advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing (CC). The insights provided aim to guide industrial practitioners in implementing CCSM4.0, offering a practical pathway to achieving sustainable manufacturing and superior CSM operations.
