Abstract
Applying the insights of lesbian and queer theory approach to a reading of Kate O’Brien’s third novel Mary Lavelle (1936) allows us to see not only a rich and intriguing text but by contrasting a queer reading to feminist readings of Mary Lavelle we can see how a queer reading can both develop and challenge a feminist approach to the text.
