Abstract
En la literatura internacional, los países del Sur Global a menudo se presentan como ejemplos, estudios de caso o variantes de eventos políti- cos más amplios que colocan a Estados Unidos y Europa en el centro de su análisis. El problema de esta mentali- dad académica colonizada es que países como Brasil y Filipinas han conocido – y reinventado – una de las ex- presiones del autoritarismo más radicales y violentas del mundo. El profundo daño causado por el gobierno de Jair Bolsonaro al medio ambiente es inconmensurable, pero solo recibe una atención residual tanto de los académicos como de la prensa internacional, lo que dificulta una mejor comprensión de los impactos más feroces que tienen los extremismos en el mundo.
In international literature, countries of the Global South are often presented as examples, case studies, or variants of broader political events, placing the United States and Europe at the center of their analysis. The problem with this colonized academic mindset is that countries like Brazil and the Philippines have experienced—and reinvented—one of the most radical and violent expressions of authoritarianism in the world. The profound damage caused by Jair Bolsonaro's government to the environment is immeasurable, yet it receives only residual attention from both academics and the international press, hindering a better understanding of the more ferocious impacts of extremism around the world.
