This report examines the socio-economic dimensions of the land-use system in Ireland. This is a vast and complex topic, and it is not feasible in a short review of evidence to consider every relevant topic and every issue with the same level of detail. Instead, this report aims to highlight that land-use is a complex system with multiple elements and interrelationships. Moreover, from a policymaking perspective, ‘land’ can be framed or valued in different ways by different sets of stakeholders, which often leads to competing or conflicting goals in relation to how land should be used.
