Abstract: A comprehensive assessment programme for families where physical child abuse has occurred is described in this paper. The programme is informed by a multifactorial understanding of child abuse. Programme staff are members of a multidisciplinary team based in a Department of Child and Family Psychiatry. The main function of the programme is to provide a sound basis for long term - planning in cases of no n - accidental injury
