Abstract
The purpose of the research is to examine the causes affecting girls’ education in India. Education is the single greatest tool for achieving social justice and equality (New Education Policy, 2020). In ancient times girls were worshipped as goddesses but as time went by the status of the women was declined. The parents preferred to have boys than having girl children. The education of the female was given no prominence in the male dominated in the society. During the British empire the policies were adapted to increase the enrolment of women in India. Indian society is ruled by the caste system. The low caste women were not allowed to educate themselves. The girls were also not allowed to go to school once they attend puberty. The parents were concerned about the sanitation during the periods. Child marriages are very much prevalent in India. The parents found easy to find boys for the girls those who are uneducated. The geographical difference is also a cause for the less participation of the girls to be educated. The students from the villages have to walk for hours to reach school. This has affected the education of women. The New Education Policy is assuring education for all thus to bring equality in the society.
