Publication AmaechiThree Birmingham basketball players, three mobile percussionists, and an electronic musician run, jump, shuffle, bounce, and play across the 3X3 practice court of the Commonwealth Games creating an energetic and sonically rich performance that sits in the space between sport and music. This action is frequently interspersed by three singers quoting in close harmony the inspiring words of psychologist & Ex-NBA player, John Amaechi, the first basketball player to come-out as gay in the very straight world of sports. This queer-led performance is a celebration of sport, teamwork, collaboration, difference, and the human spirit, whilst also drawing attention to the difficulties faced by queer people in sport, and the status of queer people in 35 Commonwealth countries that criminalise homosexuality, 13 of which punish homosexuality with imprisonment or death.10 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Atmospheric Nitrogen Pollution: Sources, Impacts and Solutions(University College Dublin, 2017-05); ; ; ; Every year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Environmental Science Association of Ireland (ESAI) have an open call for Grassroots workshops. These are aimed at encouraging early career researchers to organise workshops relevant to the EPA and ESAI. Grassroots Workshops are an excellent opportunity for early career researchers to disseminate their work and encourage knowledge transfer, ideally establishing new collaborations. This year, a PhD student, David Kelleghan, in UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering was successful when applying to organise a workshop. David is a PhD student researching gaseous emissions and their environmental impact as part of the AmmoniaN2K project in the school. He ran a workshop entitled "Atmospheric Nitrogen Pollution: Sources, Impact and Solutions" in UCD on May 19th, 2017. The event hosted three keynote speakers, namely Prof. Mark Sutton of the Centre of Ecology and Hydrology, in the United Kingdom; Dr. Gary Lanigan of Teagasc and David Dodd of the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment. The workshop was aimed at gauging the current level of knowledge in Ireland regarding the potential impacts and sources of atmospheric nitrogen pollution. With the new targets under the National Emissions Ceilings (NEC) Directive from the European Union, highlighting the need for a cost effective risk based approach for monitoring air pollution on sensitive ecosystems, this workshop proved timely and facilitated discussion between key stakeholders, international experts and both experienced and early career researchers. This allowed for an open frank discussion about both ongoing research and where this work needs to go in the future.509 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Big Data: Rewards and Risks for the Social Sciences(2013-03); Both applicants have been extensively involved in science data (Big Data, Small Data, and the transitions among them) and have conducted ethnographic and qualitative studies of data creation and use, but have recently shifted their interests and work to social science data. Although they have not formally worked together, they have worked on the same large science data project (Center for Embedded Networked Sensing at University of California, Los Angeles). More recent interactions and conversations have brought them together to share interests and concerns. To perhaps begin collaboration, they are interested in jointly applying for this workshop. In this paper, we briefly discuss three issues that are of interest to us in the realm of big data and the social sciences.188 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Clifden Arts Festival. Clifden, Co Galway. Brendan Flynn: Founder. Artistic Director of Clifden Arts Festival (1977—present) in conversation with Danielle Lynch(Irish Arts Festivals Archive, 2023-03-29); ; ; IAFA Oral History Project comprises first-hand accounts by key members of Irish arts festivals. The project was established to complement and enhance the Irish Arts Festivals Archive collection, with each of the oral histories relating to a festival that has deposited, or is committed to depositing, its archive with IAFA. These collections, which provide unique insights into the contribution of festivals to the arts, cultural and economic life of their communities, are part of the UCD Cultural Heritage Collections, and are held in UCD Archives, in the James Joyce Library. This interview took place on 23rd September 2022 at the Clifden Arts Festival Box Office, Bridge Street, Clifden, Co. Galway.3 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Commemorating Abuse: Gender Politics and Making SpaceRecent cultural explorations of Ireland's history of institutional abuse have focussed on buildings as ways of creating a commemorative space for this history. Brokentalkers' The Blue Boy (2011), Anu Productions' Laundry (2011), and Evelyn Glynn's Breaking the Rule of Silence (2011) all insist on the visibility and presence of these institutions within towns and communities. All three works foreground the necessary role of active spectatorship in commemorating this traumatic past, and in ensuring it never happens again. This active spectatorship stands in contrast to the patterns of agnosia and amnesia which maintained the system for so long. This lecture discusses the ways in which culture plays a much-needed role in the commemoration of abuse trauma. Yet culture cannot stand alone and the lecture subsequently calls for a state-led official history of Ireland's institutional past which addresses the class and gender-based operation of these institutions in a holistic system of incarceration.599 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Correction to "A Congestion Alleviation Technique Exploiting Structural Insights on the Interaction of Line Loading Limits, Reactance and Line Outage Security Constraints"The authors regret that the published manuscript contains a typographic error in labelling a reactance value for a particular line in both Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 of the original manuscript. In both of these cases, the reactance of the line A → C should be labelled as 0.1 pu. The other lines in these diagrams should be annotated with reactances of 1 pu but the central line A → C should be 0.1 pu. These figures are provided here without these misleading typographic errors.26 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication DED : Dynamic Economic Load Dispatch(2018-05-01)For more details please refer to Chapter 4 (Gcode4.1), of the following book: Soroudi, Alireza. Power System Optimization Modeling in GAMS. Springer, 2017. This chapter provides a solution for dynamic economic dispatch (DED) problem in GAMS. DED refers to dispatch a set of units over a given operating horizon (usually 24 h). The on/off status of units is assumed to be known. Two paradigms of DED are discussed and modeled, namely cost-based DED and price-based DED. Finally, the linearized version of DED is provided.30 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
